MARINA KORTENBOUT VAN DER SLUIJS

Rhythm, Balance, and Serene Beauty

As an artist, I observe—seeking essence, purity, reason, and emotion. Through abstraction, I find a language to tell my story.

I am drawn to the sensitivity of Mono-ha, the meditative lines of Agnes Martin, the poetic intensity of Nick Cave, and the luminous worlds of James Turrell and Olafur Eliasson. These influences resonate with me, yet, my work does not mirror them. Instead, it shapes its own visual language, where rhythm, balance, and control are not just formal elements, but vital forces."

Yet, I am too curious to confine myself to one single form or medium. My work is constantly evolving, shifting, and exploring new directions. Nature and music ground me. They feed my imagination and help me translate ideas into tangible form. Materiality is never an afterthought. What I choose to work with is dictated by the moment—by the emotion, the energy, the intent. Texture, weight, structure—each plays a role in how an idea takes shape.

What I create must hold an uncompromising beauty,  adhering to my personal definition-raw, unreserved, and intentional.

Rhythm and balance guide my process. Layer by layer, version by version, I refine, question, and redefine.
